European media reported that Jesse Marsch (51, USA), the former Leeds United head coach, is a strong candidate for the next head coach of the Korean national soccer team.

The British Daily Mail reported on the 30th (Korea Standard Time) that “Marsh is being mentioned as the head coach of the Korean national team as the replacement of former coach Jurgen Klinsmann.”

The media explained, “After (Marsh) was dismissed from Leeds United (last year), he had a long-awaited opportunity to return to the coaching position,” adding, “Korea is not the only place that is interested in him.”

Jeong Hae-sung, chairman of the Korea Football Association’s power enhancement committee, said earlier this month that he has selected a total of 11 candidates, including four Koreans and seven foreigners, as the next head coach.

In the case of foreign head coaches, non-face-to-face interviews were conducted first, and after determining the priorities, it was confirmed that Chairman Jung Hae-sung left for Europe to interview in person.

After Klinsmann was eliminated in January after losing to Jordan in the semifinals of the Asian Cup, South Korea was dismissed in a surprise move after being held responsible for poor performance and team management. Since then, Hwang Seon-hong, the coach of the Olympic team, temporarily took the helm in March, and the current head coach is vacant.

Marsh, mentioned locally in the UK, is considered one of the foreign candidates to lead the next Korean national team.

Marsh, from the United States, served as the head coach of Leipzig (Germany) after serving as the MLS New York Red Bulls coach, and served as the head coach of Salzburg (Austria) from 2019 to 2021.

In particular, he won the title for two consecutive seasons during the Salzburg era, drawing attention, and he coached Hwang Hee-chan (Wolverhampton) and Erling Holland (Manchester City) during this period.

Afterwards, Marsh took the helm of Leeds in the English Premier League (EPL) in March 2022, leading his team to stay in the team but was dismissed in February 2023 due to poor performance. He has no team so far.

The Daily Mail said, “The Korea Football Association and Marsh will have another meeting this week. A final decision could be made soon.”

The media added, “Marsh coached Hwang Hee-chan and he has experience in the English Premier League and Bundesliga, so he knows other Korean players well.” 토토사이트

However, there are variables. “Korea is not the only country interested in Marsh. There are reports that he contacted him for the position of coach for the men’s national team, which is currently vacant in Canada,” the Daily Mail said.

Meanwhile, the KFA plans to hold a power enhancement committee meeting chaired by Chairman Chung Hae-sung at a certain location on the day to figure out the candidates for the KFA’s leadership. The KFA plans to confirm the new coach in early to mid-May.
