“Still a young friend, will eventually get through” Manager’s belief in Pittsburgh monster shortstop

O’Neill Cruz, 25, a monster shortstop for the Pittsburgh Pirates who is 201 centimeters tall, is having a hard time. Manager Derek Shelton expressed confidence in him.

In an interview ahead of the home game against the Milwaukee Brewers at PNC Park in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, on the 23rd (Korea time), Shelton expressed his thoughts on Cruz, saying, “We need to continue to keep positive thoughts.”

He has been having a hard time since last season, when he stood out with 17 home runs in 87 games in the 2022 season.

In 2023, he played in only nine games due to a broken ankle, and this season he has been sluggish with a batting average of 0.209 on-base percentage of 0.261 and a slugging percentage of 0.326 in 22 games. He hit three home runs, but struck out 37 at the same time. He ranks first in the league with 37.
In the previous day’s game, he even made an error by missing an ordinary fly ball. In an interview after the game, he said, “It’s a matter of confidence. He seems to have lost a bit of confidence recently. I hope he can regain it.”

Shelton covered Cruz, saying he was “still a young friend.”

“He has no experience of playing the entire season in the big leagues yet. He has played 120 to 130 games now. That’s why we should not lose our positive minds even in this current situation,” Shelton continued.

“I didn’t play most of the last season, and I lost the entire season in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic,” he said, pointing out that there were many gaps in cruises.

It is a waste of time for him to give up. In the 2022 season, he recorded 91.9 miles in average batting speed, 91 percent in the league’s percentile, 15.5 percent in the regular hitting ratio, 96 percent in the percentile, and 46.1 percent in the strong batting ratio, 81 percent in the percentile. His ability to hit strong balls is an excellent player. It is a question of how he demonstrates this in the actual game.
“He’s going to come alive and he’s going to lead the team for a few months. Then everybody’s going to forget about his past slumps,” Shelton said. “He’s a player who has a smile and a personality that’s easy to carry on others. We have to make sure that smile comes out. It’s important that he stays positive,” Shelton said again about his positive attitude.

Other players will play the role of No. 1 hitter until Cruz recovers his confidence. On this day, Andrew McCutchen came up as the first batter. 업소알바
“The most important thing is that he can handle it (the role of the first batter). He is a player who can control the batter’s box. At a time when the offense is not working out like this, it would be good for the team to see a veteran step up and control the batter’s box,” Shelton said, explaining why he appointed McCutchen as the first batter.
