Kang Min-gu of Byeoksan Players FC (hereinafter referred to as Byeoksan Players) in Gwanak-gu, Seoul, who succeeded in advancing to the second round of the Korea Cup, said he wanted to face K-League players as soon as possible.
In the first round of the 2024 Hana Bank Korea Cup held at Hyochang Stadium on Sunday, Byeoksan Players (K5) defeated FC Chungju (K4) 4-2 to advance to the second round. Byeoksan Players, who had taken the lead with Kang Min-gu’s first goal in the 28th minute of the first half, lost the tie just before the end of the second half, and scored three goals in overtime to overcome FC Chungju, who only scored one goal. Byeoksan Players will face Gimpo FC (K2) in the second round.

After the game, Kang Min-gu said in an interview with the Korea Football Association’s website, “The opponent is active and we are not, and we only practice once a week. I didn’t go out very closely from the beginning of the game because I thought I would lose my physical strength,” adding, “In that regard, the opponent seems to have been embarrassed. As Chungju gradually came up, the back space opened up and we targeted that part well.”

In the 28th minute of the first half, Kang Min-gu completed the team’s first goal by connecting the ball dropped by Yeo In-hyuk with a sensational shot in a set-piece situation. Since then, he has led his team to a miraculous victory, including running across the ground. “I was able to score easily because (female) In-hyuk shook it well. I thought we were definitely at a disadvantage when we lost the tie and went to extra time,” he said. “But the team members agreed and asked us to play our soccer until the end.”

After playing in the second division of Portugal and playing for Chiang Rai FC in Thailand, he has set up a private academy specializing in strikers and teaches young players. Some of the players are active in the K4 League.

Kang Min-gu joined the team just before the Byeoksan Players participated in the Chiang Mai Dream Cup, an international tournament in Thailand last year. Byeoksan Players participated in international competitions as the winner of last year’s K5 League Championship and won international competitions, raising the status of Korean amateur soccer. In the process, Kang Min-gu scored goals in both the first and second games and was responsible for the attack.

To him, every day he plays here is always new as Byeoksan Players is the first team to play soccer in Korea. Kang Min-gu said, “Actually, when I came back to Korea after finishing my life in Thailand, I was worried about whether I would continue playing in the K-League or retire. In fact, I received an offer from the K-League,” adding, “I decided to retire with the idea of starting something else in the end. Since then, I have been contacted by Byeoksan and I am happily playing soccer as I joined the team through the last Thai international competition.” 룸알바

Lastly, Kang Min-gu said, “Even after retiring, I still wanted to play against K-League players. I met Kimpo FC as I advanced to the second round of the Korea Cup, and I want to play against them as soon as possible. I will not stop here and help Byeoksan Players go higher in the Korea Cup.”
