The “Clinsman” team, which is aiming to win the Asian Cup title for the first time in 64 years since 1960, will start to harden in earnest in Korea from Wednesday. It will gather mostly domestic players and slowly build up its body, before leaving for the United Arab Emirates (UAE), the site of its training camp, on January 2 next year.

The Korean national soccer team, led by coach Jürgen Klinsmann, will gather at a hotel in Seoul on the 26th for training.

The list consists of K-League players who are on the final roster for the Asian Cup and some overseas players who can train during the break.

Sixteen players, including Cho Hyun-woo (Ulsan), Song Bum-keun (Shonan Belmare, goalkeeper), Kim Young-kwon, Jung Seung-hyun, Kim Tae-hwan, Seol Young-woo (Ulsan), Kim Jin-soo (Jeonbuk), Lee Ki-je (Suwon), Kim Joo-sung (Seoul, Lee Sang-soo defenseman), Lee Jae-sung (Mintz), Hwang In-beom (Zvezda), Jung Woo-young (Stuttgart), Moon Sun-min, Park Jin-seop (Jeonbuk), Lee Soon-min (Gwangju, Lee Sang-min, midfielder), and Cho Kyu-sung (Mit Whelan, striker), will be called up first to win the Asian Cup.

All K-League players will start training on the 26th, while overseas players will join according to their return schedule.

The training will be conducted by the national team’s physical coaches, Werner Roytard, and Lee Jae-hong. Through weight training and conditioning, the team will focus on checking physical conditions and fatigue of the players who finished their recent seasons and maintaining their condition.

“The purpose of this training is to allow players to leave for Qatar in their best condition through proper rest and training, as several players have to start preparing for the tournament while they are very tired after the season,” Klinsmann said.

The final entry list of the 26 players who will leave for Qatar will be announced by Coach Klinsmann himself at CGV Yongsan, Seoul, on the 28th. Coach Klinsmann will express his ambition to win the Asian Cup, along with the background of the player selection.

The entry for this Asian Cup has been expanded from 23 to 26, and one of the concerns is who will be the replacement for Hwang Ui-jo (Norwich City), who was recently excluded due to illegal filming charges.

Due to coach Klinsmann’s tendency to have no “surprise selection” in the big frame, there is no unexpected player to be selected again this time.
