Ramos makes 138th UCL start, passes Raul for most in history
Every time Sergio Ramos (37, Sevilla) plays in the Champions League, he makes history.
“Ramos has overtaken Raul Gonzalez to become the Spanish player with the most UEFA Champions League starts of all time,” Spanish outlet Le Revo reported today.
Ramos has been the subject of a flurry of transfer rumors this summer. With his contract at Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) expiring, he was inundated with offers from the United States and Saudi Arabia.
Despite the big offers, Ramos chose Sevilla. “We have agreed a one-year contract with Ramos,” Sevilla announced on the club’s official website on May 5.
There wasn’t much of an adjustment period. Ramos started in the fifth round of the league against Las Palmas on April 18, leading the team to a 1-0 clean sheet victory.
That earned him a spot in the Champions League. Ramos had played full time in the previous Champions League Group B first leg against Reims, contributing to a 1-1 draw.
At his age, Ramos hasn’t shown any signs of rust. According to statistician Fúscore.com, Ramos saved four shots from Reims to keep his team from conceding a goal.바카라사이트
That’s not all. Ramos also helped stabilize the defense with two interceptions and two caused turnovers. He’s also made 66 passes, the most on the team, with an impressive 86.4% success rate.
He even has a meaningful record. According to the report, Ramos has started a total of 138 games since making his Champions League debut in 2005. No Spanish player in history has more Champions League starts than Ramos.
