Daegu Go defeats Segwango 3-2 to become the 51st owner of the green phoenix. Daegu University won the 51st Green Phoenix National High School Baseball Tournament with a thrilling 3-2 come-from-behind victory over Segwango in the final of the 10-inning extra innings at Mokdong Stadium on Monday.

It was SeAd that broke the 0-0 tie first, thanks to strong pitching from both teams. In the top of the seventh inning, after a walk by Lee Jung-jae and a single by Yeon Je-hwi, Kim Tae-hyun led off with a double down the left field line. On the ensuing double play, Hwang Jae-sang’s grounder to third allowed Yeon Je-hwi to come home for a 2-0 lead.

Down by a run, Daegu came up big in the final inning. With two outs in the bottom of the ninth, Yang Hyun-jong hit a two-run double to right-center field to tie the game at 2-2 and extend the game. With momentum on their side, Daegu rallied to win the game 3-2 in the bottom of the 10th inning when Lee Chan laid down a sacrifice bunt with the bases loaded. Yang Hyun-jong and Son Kyung-ho, who hit the tying run in the ninth inning, took home the tournament MVP and managerial awards, respectively.

With the victory, Daegu became the first team in the 2000s to win the phoenix tournament four times in five years – 2003, 2010, and 2018.
