Rahm, McIlroy, Hogan, and 12 others confirmed for Ryder Cup European team…no LIV golfers
The 12 members of the European team that will compete in the Ryder Cup, the golf competition between the United States and Europe in September, were announced today.
Six players automatically qualify for the biennial Ryder Cup by virtue of their ranking, while the remaining six are nominated by their respective team captains.
The U.S. team will be comprised of the top six players on the points list after the BMW Championship, the second round of the FedExCup playoffs, while the European team will be comprised of the top six players on the world ranking and European points list.
While the U.S. team was named last month, the recent conclusion of the DP World Tour’s Omega European Masters also set the stage for the European field at the Ryder Cup.
Yon Rahm (Spain), Rory McIlroy (Northern Ireland), Viktor Hovlan (Norway), Tyrrell Hatton (England), Matt Fitzpatrick (England) and Robert McIlroy (Scotland) were named to the European team in order of points.
In addition, European Head Coach Luke Donald (England) named six players to the squad.
Tommy Fleetwood (England), Nicolai Hoygård (Denmark), Shane Lowry (Ireland), Justin Rose (England), Sepp Straka (Austria), and Ludvig Eiberg (Sweden) were selected.
Of these, Eiberg stands out. Having only turned professional in June, he made a splash by winning the Omega European Masters and earned a spot in the Ryder Cup in his rookie year.
Other European players who play on LIV Golf, including Sergio Garcia (Spain), Lee Westwood and Ian Poulter (England), were not selected.
“It was a very difficult decision to make, but we have a lot of players who can make a good contribution to the team,” Donald said.안전놀이터
