‘Chan-kyu Lim’s 8th win’ ends losing streak as unstoppable LG beats Samsung…Samsung’s escape from last place next up
LG defeats Samsung to end losing streak. LG won the 12th game of the season 7-4 at Samsung Lions Park in Daegu on Saturday. Starter Im Chan-kyu earned his eighth win of the season.
LG’s batting order was right fielder Hong Chang-ki, left fielder Moon Sung-joo, designated hitter Kim Hyun-soo, first baseman Austin Dean, shortstop Oh Ji-hwan, third baseman Moon Bo-kyung, catcher Park Dong-won, center fielder Park Hae-min and second baseman Shin Min-jae. Samsung’s starting lineup was center fielder Kim Hyun-jun, left fielder Kim Sung-yoon, right fielder Koo Ja-uk, catcher Kang Min-ho, first baseman Ryu Ji-hyuk, third baseman Kang Kang-ul, designated hitter Oh Jae-il, shortstop Lee Jae-hyun, and second baseman Kim Dong-jin.
Ahead of the game, LG manager Yoon Kyung-yup said, “Plutko is continuing to train. He could have pitched on Friday (4), but rather than pitching without training, he will pitch in the bullpen once and then play on Tuesday (8).” “Kelly also has a bruise after being hit by a pitch, so we decided to delay his start.”
Samsung swept LG for the second straight day to keep pace with ninth-place Kiwoom. Samsung coach Park Jin-man said, “We’re not in a position to give up yet. We’re on the upswing, and like KT, we can go up at any time. We’ll have to wait until the end of the season to find out,” he said, keeping hopes alive for a top-five finish.
Samsung suffered an unexpected setback in the first inning. Starting pitcher Albert Suarez was replaced after complaining of left calf pain. Right-hander Lee Seung-hyun was rushed to the mound. LG took the early lead. In the top of the first inning, Moon Bo-kyung tripled and Park Dong-won followed with an infield grounder to score the first run of the game. Samsung then tied the game with a single by Lee Jae-hyun.
With the bases loaded in the second inning, Lee took a full count against LG starter Im Chan-kyu and blasted an eight-pitch fastball over the left field fence. 1-1. Samsung had a chance to load the bases in the third with a walk to Kim Hyun-jun, a single to Kim Sung-yoon to left, and a single to Koo Ja-rook to right. It was a situation where a lot of runs could be scored. But it didn’t happen.
After missing out on runners on first and second in the third inning, LG had two runners on base in the fifth inning when Oh Ji-hwan singled up the middle to bring home two runners. With two outs in the sixth, LG scored one more run when Hong Chang-ki singled to left center. Moon Sung-joo followed with a single to center to load the bases. Kim Hyun-soo singled to bring home Hong Chang-ki, who was on second base. LG took a four-run lead in the eighth inning, capped by Moon’s two-run double.
Samsung, trailing by six runs, had the bases loaded in the bottom of the eighth. Lee Jae-hyun’s single to right and Lee Sung-gyu’s sacrifice fly to center field brought in two runs, but nothing dramatic happened. Kim Ho-jae’s RBI single in the ninth brought in one more run, but the game was already over.
LG starter Lim Chan-kyu earned the win with five innings, five hits (one home run), three walks, seven strikeouts and one run. Leadoff hitter Hong Chang-ki went 3-for-5 with a home run, one RBI and two runs scored. Moon Sung-joo was 2-for-5 with a home run, two RBIs and two runs scored.스포츠토토
