Same result as three months ago, Choi Won-tae collapsed in ‘Rapac’ again

LG Twins’ Won-Tae Choi struggled mightily in his second start since being traded. Coincidentally, it was another poor outing at the venue where he pitched his worst game of the season.

LG lost 3-6 in the 11th game of the 2023 Shinhan Bank SOL KBO League against the Samsung Lions at Samsung Lions Park in Daegu on Friday, clinching the relegation series regardless of the outcome of the game on Saturday. Their season record is now 56 wins, 2 draws and 35 losses.

Choi Won-tae, who started the game, suffered his fifth loss of the season after giving up six runs on nine hits (one earned) in five innings with four strikeouts. In his first start after the trade, he pitched six innings of two-hit ball against the Doosan Bears on March 30, striking out five and walking none, but his performance today fell short of expectations.

Choi Won-tae took the mound with a sense of urgency as the Bears scored two runs in the top of the first inning, but he gave up a run in the bottom of the first. He gave up a single to leadoff hitter Kim Hyun-jun, and then had to watch as Kim scored from third on a sacrifice fly by Kim Sung-yoon.

Choi Won-tae got out of a bases-loaded jam in the bottom of the second inning with a grounder, fly ball, and grounder to short, but he ran into trouble again in the top of the third. After leadoff hitter Kim Dong-jin struck out, Kim Hyun-jun and Kim Sung-yoon followed with back-to-back singles before giving up an RBI double to Koo Ja-rook. After the next batter, Kang Min-ho, was hit by a pitch to load the bases, Choi Won-tae gave up another run on a sacrifice fly by Ryu Ji-hyuk.

Choi Won-tae added another run in the fourth inning on a solo shot by Lee Jae-hyun and a single by Ryu Ji-hyeok in the fifth, before being stranded at first and third on a double steal. As the runs continued to pile up, the LG bench sent Choi Dong-hwan to the mound in place of Choi Won-tae in the bottom of the sixth inning.스포츠토토

Previously, Choi Won-tae had struggled mightily against Samsung Electronics in Daegu on May 4, back when he was with the Kiwoom Heroes, giving up 10 runs (nine earned) on 11 hits (two homers) and one walk in four innings. Before the game, Samsung manager Park Jin-man boasted that the hitters were confident in Choi. Since then, Choi has rebounded, but he hasn’t been able to overcome his past nightmare at Lions Park.
